Body Warm Up Exercises

Neck Warm Ups

Neck Turn

Turn your head slowly to your left until your chin aligns with your shoulder. Then turn to the right, again aligning your chin with your shoulder. Repeat this at least three times on each side.

Neck Roll

Start by taking a deep breath. As you exhale, lower your head forward. While inhaling, roll your head to the left. Exhale as your left ear points down towards your left shoulder. Keep your shoulders relaxed and take a few breaths in this position. Inhale as you drop your head towards the centre and then exhale as you lift it towards your right shoulder. Repeat this at least five times on each side.

Shoulder Warm Ups

Shoulder Lift and Drop

Lift your shoulders up as if shrugging, hold them for a couple of seconds, then drop them back to their original position. Repeat this at least four times.

Shoulder Roll

Create small circular motions with your shoulders. Do this five times, first forward and then backward.

Face and Head Warm Ups

Head Massage

Starting at the back of the neck, from the base, use your fingers to create a circular motion. Work your way up and over your head, including your temples, cheeks, jawline, and finally the front of the neck.

Big Face, Small Face

Big Face: Open your eyes and mouth wide (without overextending the jaw). Add a yawn to help clear your throat in this position.

Small Face: Close your eyes tight and pucker your lips. Add movement by shifting your lips from left to right while keeping your mouth closed. This should feel like the opposite of Big Face. Alternate between Big Face and Small Face, holding each for five to ten seconds.

Full Body Warm Up

Full Body Stretch and Shake

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Raise your arms above your head and interlock your fingers, pushing the palms skyward. Bend at the hips, pushing your interlocked fingers towards the floor. After five seconds, slowly bring your body to an upright position. Repeat, and while bent over, release your fingers and start shaking them. Let the shake travel from your wrists to your shoulders as you slowly rise. Finally, shake your hips and each leg in an upright position.

💥 Staccato Breaths: Inhale sharply and exhale in short, controlled bursts.

Straw Breathing

🥤 Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale slowly through a straw.

Diaphragmatic Breathing

🫁 Place one hand on your chest and one on your abdomen. Focus on expanding your abdomen as you inhale and contracting it as you exhale.

Resisted Breathing

💪 Inhale deeply.
  1. Exhale through slightly pursed lips as if blowing through a straw.
  2. Place your hands on your abdomen to feel the resistance and engage your core muscles.

H and Vowel Exercise

🔤 Inhale deeply.
  1. While exhaling in short, controlled bursts, create an H sound followed by a vowel (For example, Ha, He, Hi, Ho, or Hu).
  2. Keep creating this sound until you have emptied your lungs.
  3. Repeat the process with the same or a different vowel sound.

This exercise helps improve breath control.

Scales & Arpeggios

Beginners:

Sing "la" or "ma" while following the melody to the end of the audio file. Once you master this, swap out "a" for the vowels e, i, o, and u. For an additional challenge, change the vowel each time the arpeggio or scale completes a key change.

Intermediates:

Sing a sustained "ah" while following the melody. Once mastered, swap out "a" for the vowels e, i, o, and u. Challenge yourself by changing the vowel with each key change.

Advanced:

Find your starting note from the melody, then sing a sustained "ah" a cappella. Once mastered, swap out "a" for the vowels e, i, o, and u. Challenge yourself by changing the vowel with each key change.

Intermediates: Sing a sustained "la" or "ma".

Advanced: Sing a sustained vowel.

Yes and Woos (for Chest & Head Voice):

How to adjust background noise suppression for Zoom meetings

By default, Zoom’s standard optimized audio is used for processing your mic audio. This includes some background noise suppression and is best for most situations, but the level of background noise suppression can be adjusted to suit your situation. Working in a loud office environment may require higher noise suppression, while working from a quiet studio may require less noise suppression.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
  3. Click the Audio tab.
  4. Under the Audio Profile section, select Zoom-optimised audio. Different levels of Background noise suppression are displayed below.
  5. Select the low level of suppression:
Low: Noise reduction will be minimal. It will block low levels of persistent background noise.

Note: This setting is best for casually playing music, as it will preserve as much of the original sound as possible. For the highest fidelity when playing music, consider using the Enable Original Audio setting in your advanced audio settings or share device audio (with or without sharing your screen).

Android | iOS

How to enable original sound

While Zoom’s standard noise suppression is great for most situations, removing the audio filters and increasing the audio codec quality may sometimes be necessary and more useful. Before turning it on in a Zoom meeting, you must enable it from within the settings on the Zoom mobile app.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom mobile app.
  2. In the bottom-right corner, tap More (The 3 dots).
  3. Under Settings, tap Meetings.
  4. Under Audio, tap the toggle next to Use Original Audio.

Once enabled in settings, this can be toggled on and off during live meetings as needed.

How to adjust background noise suppression for Zoom meetings

By default, Zoom’s standard optimized audio is used for processing your mic audio. This includes background noise suppression, which is suitable for most situations. However, unlike the desktop client, the Zoom Web App version only supports full on/off options for background noise suppression.

  1. Join a meeting or webinar with the Zoom Web App or web client.
  2. In the control toolbar, click Settings.
  3. Click the Audio tab.
  4. Under the Audio Profile section, select Zoom optimised audio.

If you have the desktop version of Zoom, make sure your settings are the same as the image below
